Gate Automation in Lindfield
Gate automation surveys in Lindfield. Automate your existing gates with CAME or BFT systems. Gate Safe trained, fully insured. Call 07542 024681.

Many properties in Lindfield already have manual gates — ornate wrought iron on the period homes along the High Street, wooden five-bar gates on the properties backing onto countryside, and timber or metal swing gates on the larger homes around Backwoods Lane and Sunte Avenue. Automating these existing gates is often more practical and cost-effective than replacing the whole setup, which matters here where the High Street conservation area restricts what can be put in. We survey the site, recommend the right motor system, and handle the installation.
We're based in Horsham (RH13) and have three customers already in Lindfield. The RH16 postcode is about 25 minutes from base, making the village one of our quicker response areas in Mid Sussex.

What the Automation Survey Covers
Before any motor goes on a gate, we need to see the site. Every gate is different — weight, width, hinge condition, post strength, power supply proximity, and clearance all affect which motor system will work. The survey is a detailed, on-site assessment.
Gate Assessment
We measure the gate leaf weight and width, check hinge condition and post integrity, and assess the gate material. In Lindfield, the ornate wrought iron gates on the period properties are often heavier than owners expect — decorative ironwork and a solid frame can push a single leaf well past the load a light motor will handle. The motor needs to match the weight, or it will burn out within a few years.
Post and Foundation Check
On the older Lindfield properties, post stability is the first thing we check. Many of the gate posts on the High Street and around All Saints Church were set decades ago, and a motor adds load that a tired post may not cope with. Your engineer checks whether the existing posts can support a motor or whether they need reinforcement. On the period homes in the conservation area, this often decides whether an above-ground arm or a concealed underground motor is the better route.
Power Supply
The motor needs a dedicated power supply — typically a 240V feed from the house to the gate position. Your engineer checks what is already in place and advises on the cabling route. On the country houses with long driveways off the Ardingly Road, the cable run can be 30 metres or more, and armoured cable is essential. On older village properties the electrical supply may need upgrading first.
Motor Recommendation
Based on the gate weight, type, and site conditions, your engineer recommends a specific motor system. For most Lindfield residential properties this will be a CAME or BFT system. CAME is the preferred choice for most new automation — reliable, well-supported, and competitively priced. BFT underground motors suit properties where a visible motor arm would be unacceptable — common on the wrought iron gates along the High Street, and the same units already fitted to many of the established homes on Backwoods Lane.
Safety Requirements
All new gate automation must comply with current safety standards. We specify the safety devices needed — photocells, safety edges, warning lights — and include these in the quote. This matters in Lindfield, where mature gardens with overhanging trees and hedges can sit right in the photocell beam path, so sensor positioning has to be planned around the planting. This is not optional. Automated gates are machinery, and they must be safe.
