Gate Automation in Worthing
Gate automation surveys in Worthing, Findon Valley, and High Salvington. Automate your existing gates with CAME, BFT, or Nice systems. Gate Safe trained, fully insured. Call 07542 024681.

Many properties in Worthing already have manual gates — wrought iron on the Edwardian homes along Boundary Road and upper Broadwater, wooden five-bar gates on the properties backing onto the Downs, aluminium or steel on the suburban builds in Durrington and Goring. Automating these existing gates is often more practical and cost-effective than replacing the entire setup. We survey the site, recommend the right motor system, and handle the installation.
We cover Worthing from our base in Horsham, about 25-30 minutes south on the A24, and have automated gates on properties across the BN11, BN12, and BN13 areas — from the large detached homes in Findon Valley to seafront properties along Marine Parade.

What the Automation Survey Covers
Before any motor goes on a gate, we need to see the site. Every gate is different — weight, width, hinge condition, post strength, power supply proximity, and clearance all affect which motor system will work. The survey is a detailed, on-site assessment. On the Worthing coast, one extra factor dominates every decision: salt air.
Gate Assessment
We measure the gate leaf weight and width, check hinge condition and post integrity, and assess the gate material. In Worthing, the wrought iron swing gates on the period homes around Broadwater and Tarring are often heavier than owners expect, and years of salt exposure can have pitted hinges and corroded fixings before automation is even considered. The motor needs to match the load — and on a coastal site, the corrosion has to be addressed first.
Post and Foundation Check
On the flat coastal strip, post stability is usually good, but it changes as the ground rises north towards the Downs. In Findon Valley and High Salvington, properties sit on the steep hillside escarpment, and gate posts on inclined driveways take more strain than on level ground. Your engineer checks whether the existing posts can support a motor or whether they need reinforcement. On the larger detached homes up the valley, this is one of the biggest factors in choosing the right system.
Power Supply
The motor needs a dedicated power supply — typically a 240V feed from the house to the gate position. Your engineer checks what is already in place and advises on the cabling route. On the seafront and mansion-flat properties along Marine Parade, the run from the meter to the gate can be awkward, and on the larger Findon Valley plots the cable run can be 30 metres or more up the drive, where armoured cable is essential. Marine-grade glands and sealed enclosures matter near the coast — standard fittings corrode fast in salt air.
Motor Recommendation
Based on the gate weight, type, and site conditions, your engineer recommends a specific motor system. For most Worthing residential properties, this will be a CAME or BFT system. CAME is the preferred choice for most new automation — reliable, well-supported, and competitively priced. BFT underground motors suit properties where a visible motor arm would be unacceptable — common on the Edwardian and inter-war homes along upper Broadwater and Boundary Road. Near the seafront, we specify sealed housings and stainless fixings to slow corrosion.
Safety Requirements
All new gate automation must comply with current safety standards. We specify the safety devices needed — photocells, safety edges, warning lights — and include these in the quote. This is not optional. Automated gates are machinery, and they must be safe. On the coast, photocell housings need anti-corrosion treatment, as salt residue on the lenses is a common cause of sensor failure here.
Automation Options for Worthing Properties
| Property Type | Typical Gate | Recommended Motor | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edwardian / period home | Wrought iron swing | BFT underground or CAME articulated arm | Concealed installation, preserves appearance |
| Property backing onto Downs | Wooden five-bar | CAME ram or arm motor | Handles heavy timber gates, robust in rural conditions |
| Suburban detached | Aluminium sliding | CAME BXV sliding motor | Compact, suits restricted driveway widths |
| Findon Valley hillside | Double swing, larger leaves | BFT Phobos or CAME Frog | Heavy-duty, copes with inclined driveways |
| Seafront / coastal | Steel or aluminium swing | CAME with sealed housing | Salt-resistant fixings, sealed against spray |
